# Pick up an existing app

Before changing an app you did not just deploy, read its actual state. Do not rely on what a previous conversation said. Through the connector you see every app in the person's account, including ones deployed in other chats.

**Connector:** read_app · status, deployments, env_vars, domains

**Done when:** You can say in one sentence whether it is live, whether it is permanent, what changed last, and what it is missing.

**With the connector**

1. Call read_app with action "status", then "deployments", "env_vars" and "domains" for the same appName.

**Over HTTP**

1. Is it live, failed, or temporary (app.expiresAt)? GET https://ship.embarko.ai/apps/{app-name}/status
2. The last deploys, their versions, and which agent made each: GET https://ship.embarko.ai/api/apps/{app-name}/deployments
3. Which secrets are set (names only): GET https://ship.embarko.ai/api/apps/{app-name}/env-vars
4. Any custom domain and its state: GET https://ship.embarko.ai/api/apps/{app-name}/domains
5. Whether it is listed on Showcase: GET https://ship.embarko.ai/api/public/showcase/apps/{app-name}

**Errors**

| Code | Status | Retry | What to do |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `not_found` | 404 | No | Wrong name, or it is claimed and you sent no token. Ask the person for the token, or use the connector. |
